10th anniversary for UK Manager Mark Rowe joining the team

The Benchmark Estimating team got together this week to celebrate the 10th anniversary for their UK Manager Mark Rowe joining the team. Amy-Ruth MacDonald the companies CEO flew over from Australia to thank Mark for all the great work he has done during his time with the business. Mark was presented with a small gift as a token of thanks and a card which, evident from the photo contains some amusing comments.

Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder Challenge

10 members of the Benchmark Estimating/Software Team, with an age range of 27-57 had a moment of madness and signed up to do the Tough Mudder Challenge. The team finished, somewhat shattered, very dirty but satisfied with our efforts and also raised over £1400 for four selected charities Pancreatic Cancer, Breast Cancer, UNICEF, Save the Children. Well done Team Benchmark!

Expanding Our Horizons

Benchmark Estimating is all set for expansion at its Manchester site. We are taking over the office next door, effectively doubling the size of our office.

The additional space gives Benchmark Estimating’s existing 17th Floor central Manchester accommodation an amazing panoramic view of the city. It will give us space to expand the workforce within our well established cost estimating business, and also to develop our other UK business.

Our Directors Rob & Lynda MacDonald have been in Manchester recently to finalise the plans for growth. They were also lucky to see some of the UK’s rare but much welcomed sunshine during their trip.

The Australian High Commission (Austrade) held a private dinner in Manchester on the 12th October 2011, to which Benchmark Estimating were pleased to attend. Kym Fullgrabe, The Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for the UK & Ireland invited business leads in the Northwest to promote trade links between the UK and Australia. Summarising over dinner, Kym described the staggering level of development planned for Western Australia, in excess of $75bn, not including the mining industry. An opportunity not to be missed!

As an Australian owned business, based in the UK, Benchmark were pleased to support the Trade Commission’s initiative in promoting links between the countries.

Glendale have a network of offices across the southwest, their works include grounds management, woodland management and tree planting, landscaping and arboriculture for a variety of public bodies and private sector companies. Clients include Devon County Council, the Highways Agency and Natural England and leading construction companies such as Kier, Interserve, Carillion and Balfour Beatty.

Meeting the Estimating and Management Needs of Glendale

Mike Dennys is the Chief Estimator and Contracts Manager, producing bids for his own landscaping team and Glendale across the region. Based in Exeter, he and his team needed an estimating system that:

  • Could be shared and reviewed across all of their branch divisions and with the rest of the Glendale organisation across the UK,
  • Could be easily understood by non-estimators and management alike,
  • Was cost-effective in time and money,
  • Produced accurate prices,
  • Was easy-to-use,
  • And, it had to be an all in one system, so Glendale’s management could review from a different office and sign off estimates within the system, with all data held centrally in one location.

Benchmark has been able to meet these requirements and offer further value for the Glendale group.

Recent Successes

Recent successful bids include the award of scrub clearance and fencing for British Airways and the planting of over 100,000 trees across England and Wales. They also found recently that their bid to carry out soft landscaping for Exeter University had been successful.

Glendale is currently taking advantage of the recent, successful launch of Benchmark Version 7, with over 60 new functional enhancements, and found the savings in time and money a huge benefit in today’s competitive environment. Mike Dennys says “I am very impressed with Version 7 of Benchmark.” With the increasing emphasis on value for money and trimming of costs, Benchmark is more essential than ever.
